Historical Massage Device – The Pulsocon
Did you know that vibration was the first massage stroke imitated by mechanical devices?
The first mechanical device that could perform vibration therapy was invented by Dr. Joseph Macara in England. He called himself a virotherapist. In 1902, he invented a handheld mechanical device called the blood circulator. And in 1908, he renamed it the pulsocon.
The purpose of the device was to deliver a constant movement that was better than a human operator could do. The Pulsocon could deliver 2,000 vibrations per minute by cranking the handle and pressing it against the body.
It produced up and down stroking and circular movements that created a vibration sensation.
It was the first mechanical device used to perform vibration therapy for massage.
