Deep Tissue is a massage method that focuses on infiltrated musculature in the deeper muscle layers.
The therapist uses deep pressure and he or she works on the threshold of the pain threshold so that breathing plays a significant role.
Some of the massage grips are the same as those used in classical massage therapy, but the movement is slower and the pressure is deeper and concentrated on areas of tension and pain to reach the sub-layers of muscles and fascia (connective tissue surrounding muscles).
Deep Tissue massage techniques are particularly targeted at chronic muscle tension or injury, where there may be adhesions (painful, stiff tissue) in the muscles, tendons and ligaments. Adolescents can interfere with circulation and cause pain, limited movement, and inflammation.
Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain and restore normal movement. To do this, the massage therapist uses massage oil and often uses direct deep pressure. Muscles need to be relaxed for the therapist to reach deeper muscles.
