Jeillen Paisik, Malaysia
Latest Massage therapist signing up for the World Championship in Massage is Jeillen Paisik from Malaysia. The IMA has asked her to tell about herself:
Hi, my name is Jeillen Paisik, I’m from the Kadazan-Dusun tribe, which is one of the indigenous minorities in Malaysia. I am proud to represent my community, and country and share our tradition-inspired massage therapy with others.
I believe that massage is more than just a physical experience; it is an opportunity to connect with oneself and others, promote healing, and enhance the overall quality of life. By sharing this massage experience with you, I hope to inspire more people to incorporate massage therapy into their self-care routines and to recognize the many benefits that it can bring.
Having grown up with a deep understanding of my tribe’s culture and traditions, I learned massage therapy at a young age. As a child, I would assist my parents in massaging their bodies after long hours of work in the paddy field, understanding first-hand the tension and soreness that can result from such labor-intensive work.
One of the massage techniques that I specialize in is Urutan Malaysia also known as Malaysian Massage, it incorporates a wide range of techniques from different ethnicities and cultures in Malaysia. These techniques include Qi Gong therapy, Indian head massage, Malay urut, indigenous leg massage, Chinese reflexology for the feet, and Marma points. By combining these different techniques and rituals, Urutan Malaysia offers a holistic and comprehensive massage experience.
Based on this tradition, before a massage session, the maracas are often used to cleanse the surrounding environment, expel negative energy, and purify the mind and spirit. This is done in order to distance oneself from the busy and hectic urban lifestyle, and to create a more peaceful and harmonious environment. The maracas are a unique and indigenous musical instrument that holds great significance in this cultural practice.
Following the cleansing process, a breathing exercise called Qi Gong will involve deep inhalation and exhalation. On the lower leg, the Thai stretching technique is used. Through gradual and gentle stretching, Thai massage can effectively enhance flexibility and increase the range of motion over time.
Additionally, steamed herbal balls are utilized to apply pressure and further alleviate tension. This technique has been known to induce a profound sense of relaxation, providing relief from both stress and fatigue. It has the potential to enhance both emotional and physical well-being. The massage may also aid in improving the alignment and postural integrity of the body, while simultaneously promoting circulation of both blood and lymphatic fluid.
Thank you for the opportunity to introduce myself and share this ancient healing technique with all of you, and I look forward to sharing my passion for massage therapy with you.
