How often one should receive a massage!
How often one should receive a massage largely depends on how the massage affects the recipient.
If the massage has a good effect but the effect only lasts for a short time, such as a few hours or just one day, the therapist may benefit from repeating the treatment at intervals of 1-3 days. If the massage has a good effect and lasts for days or weeks, treatment can be given as needed.
As a general rule, massage can be given every day for up to a week or in connection with treatment and rehabilitation programs, as long as the therapist ensures that the muscles are not overburdened by the mechanical strain that massage can cause. This can happen with excessive massage on a muscle that is already overloaded on a daily basis.
Massage for general well-being or to maintain fresh and healthy muscles can be given once a week or every 14 days.
If the recipient experiences “too much” soreness during the treatment, the intensity and frequency of the massage should be reduced.
If the recipient experiences great relief from the massage but the effect doesn’t last long, it may be a good idea to provide short massage sessions with a strong emphasis on warming up and surface strokes (effleurage) daily.
When muscles feel like armor, the therapist should ensure an extra-long warm-up before gently going deeper. The therapist should not try to force the muscle to release tension, as this risks damaging the muscle tissue (muscle cells), which will cause pain both during and after the massage. In this case, it is better to give massages more frequently. Additionally, it is always a good idea to find out why this muscle armor has developed and then work to eliminate it.
