Latest Massage Therapist participating at the World Massage Championship in Copenhagen is award winning Mayu Iwai from Japan. The IMA has asked her to tell about herself:

I am a therapist and educator based in Tokyo, Japan.

This year marks my 17th year in the field of bodywork.

In my twenties, I studied facial treatments, body contouring, and oil therapy in the field of aesthetics. In my thirties, I discovered the world of Traditional Thai Massage. Through these experiences, I came to understand that the body should not be approached as separate parts, but as an interconnected whole.

My treatments are built upon the deeply relaxing rhythm unique to Traditional Thai Massage, combined with myofascial release and stretching techniques tailored to the needs of modern lifestyles. Each session is designed as a seamless and continuous flow.

What I value most is guiding clients into a state of deep relaxation, where their breathing naturally deepens and their body can return to its inherent balance.

In addition to manual techniques, I incorporate Furoshiki, a traditional Japanese cloth. Using Furoshiki allows me to safely access joints and facilitate deeper states of release in ways that cannot always be achieved with the hands alone.

Furoshiki has been part of Japanese culture since the Nara period (710–794 AD), traditionally used for wrapping, carrying, and presenting objects. In my work, I honor this cultural heritage while reimagining it as a therapeutic tool.

I also wear white attire during my treatments and educational sessions. In Japan, white symbolizes purity and sacredness, while also representing the threshold between the ordinary and the extraordinary.

I view each treatment as an opportunity for clients to step away from everyday life and reconnect with themselves. The white clothing serves as a visual expression of this transition—a moment in which the body and mind can shift into a different state of being.

My bodywork has been shaped through continuous learning, mentorship, and inspiration from many teachers throughout my journey. I remain committed to deepening my understanding and allowing my work to evolve with every experience.

Above all, I am grateful to my clients, my teachers, and my fellow therapists. Their presence has shaped my path, and it is my sincere wish to continue this work throughout my life.

I had the honor of participating in the 7th Massage Competition held in Copenhagen, Denmark, last June about 250 over participants from 50 over countries.
During this event, I encountered numerous massage therapists who profoundly inspired me till now, we made connectionson social media, learning new techniques from them as well.
The competition venue was expansive and expertly designed to accommodate all categories of massage.

Mr. Jeppe, my greatest idol, was exceptionally engaged throughout the event. His energy seemed boundless, akin to a rechargeable battery, as he was present everywhere, capturing videos and photographs of all participants and conducting interviews with us.

Wishing all my fellow "muscle kneaders" the best of luck; may you enjoy this truly remarkable experience in your lives!

Jeg mødte Jeppe Tengbjerg for første gang ved det første World Massage Championship i 2017. Siden da har vi krydset veje mange gange, i forskellige samarbejder relateret til massageverdenen: internationale konkurrencer, danske konkurrencer, kurser, workshops, seminarer, masterclasses mv. . Her var Jeppe skaberen, arrangøren eller i det mindste var han en væsentlig faktor i dannelsen af disse værdifulde platforme for uddannelse, inspiration og promovering, for alle dem, der er involveret i massageverdenen, både som massageudbydere og som massageforbrugere.
Jeppe har ydet et kæmpe bidrag til at fremme massageværdier i Danmark og verden. Der kunne siges meget om dette bidrag og om hans egenskaber som professionel og som person. Måske allervigtigst er, at Jeppe Tengbjerg er en inspiration og et forbillede. Han samler flittigt viden og erfaringer, hvorfra han skaber en kilde til ny viden og erfaring til andre og giver den videre.
