The Story behind Pregnancy Massage
Pregnancy massage, also known as prenatal massage, has a history rooted in various cultural and historical practices that recognized the importance of providing care for pregnant women.
Throughout history, different cultures incorporated forms of massage or bodywork to support women during pregnancy. Traditional practices in countries such as India, China, and ancient Greece included massage techniques tailored to the needs of pregnant women.
The formalization and recognition of pregnancy massage as a specialized form of therapy occurred in the 20th century. As interest in women’s health and wellness grew, massage therapists and healthcare professionals began developing specific techniques to address the unique needs and concerns of pregnant women.
Today, pregnancy massage is a well-established and widely practiced form of therapy. It focuses on providing comfort, relaxation, and relief from common discomforts associated with pregnancy. Trained therapists use specialized techniques to ensure the safety and well-being of both the mother and the developing baby.
At the International Massage Associations World Championship in Massage, Pregnancy massage is not a category, but has been shown, done and given within especially the Freestyle Massage category.
