Sonya Keogh, Ireland
Latest Massage Therapist signing up for the World Championship in Massage is Sonya Keogh from Ireland. The International Massage Association has asked her to tell about herself:
My first experience of learning massage was in Chiang Mai in Thailand 2004, where took part in a two week intensive Thai Massage course. I fell in love with the idea of helping people heal. At a young age I studied martial arts and knew what it was like to have strains, aches and pains. After an injury in my adult life, I needed a lot of help, and I found osteopathy and acupuncture helped in healing my own body.
During my time travelling, I studied massage, therapeutic stretching and on-site chair massage in New Zealand and back home here in Ireland, further in Sports & Orthopaedic Massage, Tuina, Amatsu, NMT, Structural Integration, Cranial and Visceral Manipulation, Spinal Manipulation, Somatic Movement, Yoga Teacher Training, teaching massage and more recently the art of breathwork.
I have had the privilege to be taught by some of the world’s greats including James Waslaski, and Eric Dalton (RIP).
My clinical experience ranges from working on Rugby teams such as NZ All Blacks, SA Blue Bulls and the Irish male and female 7’s, as well as elderly, and children. For the past 15 years I’ve been working at Google head office in Dublin and a charity community centre in Walkinstown and in my own clinic for over 10 years. A treatment with me is a fusion of different styles to best suit the client on the table.
