Massage Judge Lesson
Take a look at the first Lesson of the IMA Massage Judge Course. Watch Founder and CEO Jeppe Tengbjerg explain the thoughts behind the course.
Regardless of which massage method is used, the Judge should evaluate the massage therapists on the following points:
- How they pre-frame the treatment and respect the clients modesty by covering them
- How they palpate and examine the client
- How they proceed with the massage step by step
- How they choose their methods
- How they finish the treatment
- How they relate to the client and the importance og hygiene
- Ergonomics and techniques
Furthermore the judges will evaluate the therapists in the follwing:
- Techniques
- Ergonomics
- Flow
- Innovation
- Client contact
About Techniques
Remember it is important to know the purpose for the massage (is it injury treatment or is it wellness?). The judges must have this in mind when they evaluate the techniques used by the therapists, the variation of these and the combination and if the combination is relevant.
About Ergonomics
Consider the right ergonomics. Remember that it is important to observe if the competitor adjust the massage table or chair, how his/her Bodywork/power transmission is done, the competitors body alignment and of course the clients positioning.
Flow
Regarding the flow and pace of the massage. Remember it is important that the pace is adjusted to the purpose of the massage. Should it be a tonifying massage or a relaxation massage? If tonifying it should be more speedy so the body’s nervous system wakes up…. But if the purpose is relaxation the massage should be slower in order to activate the parasympathic nervous system.
Innovation
Innovation is sometimes necessary. Especially if the therapist needs to adjust his or her own power /or size to the recipient.
Client contact
Client contact is about Insight and Empathy, Technique vs client.
Remember it’s also about choosing the right massage method for the right purpose and learning the clients’ expectations and needs.
Does the therapist Explain the client about the method they are using and why they choose this?
